We’ll start our workshop adventure by meeting at the Courtyard meeting room for:
• Discussion of the high desert area and Page, Arizona
• Review of the Slot Canyon, Glen Canyon and Horseshoe Bend areas
• Photography procedures and tips for shooting in the Slot Canyons
• Safety procedures for being in the Slot Canyons
• Understanding the Exposure Trifecta
• Photographic composition tips
• Pre-visualization techniques
• Water, water and more water
1:00 p.m. to late evening
The Lower Antelope Slot Canyon will be the location of our first shoot. We’ll spend an afternoon of photographing in the natural beauty of the afternoon light in the lower canyons. We will then move to the Glen Canyon Area and get into position to photograph the sunset.
The Lower Antelope Slot Canyon
• Antelope Canyon is one of the most breathtaking and tranquil places in the world. Carved from the Navajo sandstone over the course of countless millenniums, the slot canyons are majestic and narrow passages, just enough space for a small groups of photographers to photograph the carved sandstone walls with constantly changing light provided by shafts of sunlight shining down from above.

We’ll meet at the meeting room for a brief review of day one and a review of day two activities. We’ll then head out for a day of photography.

Time to begin processing our images. We’ll spend the afternoon covering workflow techniques:
• Digital post-processing workflow
• I.P.T.C. and camera settings
• Capture NX image processing techniques
Photographing the sunset at Horseshoe Bend
• Horseshoe Bend is one of Mother Nature's little surprises in a world of sandstone and slick rock that result in some of the weirdest, and neatest, formations in the west. Horseshoe Bend is downstream from Glen Canyon Dam, which holds back Lake Powell. It is within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Bring your wide-angle lens and get ready for some great photographs.

We’ll meet at the hotel then depart as a group for a sunset shoot at Horseshoe Bend.

We’ll meet in the Courtyard meeting room for a brief review of our final day of photographing in the Page, Arizona area then we’ll head out into the field for half-day of photography in the high desert.
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
We’ll return to the hotel to process your images from the morning shoot. The workshop will conclude with the slide show of everyone’s favorite photographs
Important: During the workshop we will be photographing in the Slot Canyon. You will need to be able to climb and descend several sections of steep and narrow metal stairs. While in the Slot Canyons the conditions are narrow and in some locations there are very narrow twists and turns that require careful maneuvering. Teamwork in handing equipment up and down the stairs and around the tight corners is essential amongst participants. At the end of the Lower Antelope Canyon there are a series of steep metal stairs that will return to the surface, followed by a ¼ mile hike back to the parking lot.
To access Horseshoe Bend there is approximately a ½ mile hike with a steep climb in the beginning followed by a gradual descent to the bend. Footing is loose sand and rocks on the path.
Participants need to be in good physical condition and capable of short, but sometimes intense hikes on loose gravel paths. Stable hiking boots are essential. If you do not like narrow, confined, underground spaces I would not recommend photographing in the Slot Canyons. The town of Page, AZ is at 4,118 FT of elevation in the high desert. It is essential that you hydrant on a regular basis to avoid high altitude health problems.
Note: In order to participate in this workshop you will be required to sign a liability release form before the workshop begins.
The workshop pricing includes the training and resources, but does not include food and lodging. You will need to book a room at our hotel (see venue list). We will be carpooling to and from our photo locations.
