Join us for a photographic adventure in the Four Corners.

Moab attracts photography enthusiasts to the Four Corners Utah area. Located in southeastern Utah along the banks of the Colorado River between soaring red sandstone cliffs, Moab is the gateway to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dead Horse Point State Park, the Colorado River and the beautiful La Sal Mountains. There are more National Parks, State Parks and other major attractions within a 200-mile radius of Moab than any other location in Utah. And Nikonians Academy is going for a series of workshops and field shooting to both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

The workshop begins at the Meeting Location in Moab, UT with a review of the workshop agenda and the Moab, UT area. We’ll also be covering the following key points:

  • Photography procedures and tips for shooting in the Moab / high desert area
  • Safety procedures for being in the Moab / high desert area
  • Understanding the Exposure Trifecta
  • Photographic composition tips
  • Pre-visualization techniques
  • Water, water and more water

1:00 p.m. to late afternoon

We’ll depart from the Holiday Inn Express for Arches National Park for an afternoon of photography at:

  • Double Arch
  • Sand Dune Arch
  • Balanced Rock
4:30 a.m. Sunrise Shoot

  • Canyonlands National Park at Mesa Arch – Island in the Sky
  • Candlestick Tower
  • Buck Canyon

1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We’ll meet at the Moab, UT meeting location for a digital workflow techniques workshop.

  • Digital post-processing workflow
  • I.P.T.C. and Camera settings
  • Capture NX image processing techniques
  • Time to process your images
8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

We’ll start in the classroom with multi-media presentations before heading out to photograph in Arches National Park.

3:30 p.m. to late evening

Then we’ll take a break before heading off to Arches National Park for a Sunset Shoot at Delicate Arch.

Day 4 Important
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

We’ll take some time today to process and back up our sunset images of Delicate Arch and a personal one-on-one critique session.

2:00 p.m. onward

Afternoon Shooting in Arches National Park

Moab, UT is located in the high desert at 4025 feet of elevation. The field shooting locations will require easy to difficult (Delicate Arch) hiking conditions with early morning (one hour before sunrise) and late evening (one hour after sunset) location shoots.

The day is long, but the location is unbelievable. We will take a mid-day break and return to the hotel for several hours for lunch and rest before departing for the afternoon and evening shoots.

Participants should be in good physical condition and capable of hiking at altitude and carrying their own photography gear.

Sturdy hiking boots are essential. Early mornings in the high desert are cool and will require a warm jacket, gloves and hat.

In order to participate in this workshop you will be required to sign a liability release form before the workshop begins.
