Itinerary summaryUpon arrival at the airport in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday Sept. 5, we will head off via shuttle bus to our overnight accommodations in Downtown Anchorage to get settled and for a trip briefing in a welcoming dinner.
The next morning, we will board the Alaska Railroad for a scenic rail journey up to Denali National Park. On a clear day we will start to get a glimpse of the Mountain within half an hour of departing Anchorage.
Three hours into the trip marks one of the most spectacular views of Mount McKinley. North of Talkeetna we will cross the startling 918-foot Hurricane Gulch trestle, towering 296 feet above the creek below. And throughout this entire journey, we will have access to exterior viewing platforms allowing unobstructed photographic views.
We will arrive in mid-afternoon at the Denali train station and head to our hotel, operations base for our next five days.
The next morning, Monday Sept.7, we begin three days of exploration in Denali National Park in search of stunning landscape scenes and following the wide-ranging amount of wildlife, such as bears, moose, caribou and eagles. Utilizing the park's shuttle system, our tickets will provide access for 90 miles deep inside Denali park, allowing us to get off and re-board the shuttles at our photographic whims. Weather permitting, evenings after dark will include photo sessions capturing the wondrous Aura Borealis, or Northern Lights.
On Thursday Sept. 10, we board the train for our return to Anchorage, allowing for additional photographic opportunities from the exterior viewing platforms, or time to relax and edit your images in preparation for our final night slideshow.
Friday Sept. 11, our final day, starts with boarding the train for a journey to the Spencer Lake Glacier and Iceberg Field. We will spend the afternoon specifically as a private group for photography aboard rafts floating through the icebergs on Spencer Lake and up to the glacier.
Following this unique experience, we return to Anchorage for our final slideshow of images during a spectacular farewell Alaskan dinner of Wild Alaskan Salmon. A fitting end to what will be a unforgettable trip.
On Saturday Sept. 12 we head back home with a huge smile and a load of images from this our 9th Annual Nikonians Photo Adventure Trip (ANPAT)
