Discuss this workshop
Join Nikonians founders Bo Stahlbrandt (bgs) and J. Ramon Palacios (jrp) and Mike Hagen (Mike_Hagen), Nikonians Academy Director, in this 13th edition of the Annual Nikonians Photo Adventure Trip (ANPAT). The ANPAT is the Nikonians field event of year.
Northern Arizona is a photographer's dream location with classic landscapes, painted deserts, sweeping panoramas, and amazing canyons.
Each and every day, our intrepid crew of photographers will explore the high desert of America's Southwest. We put together a detailed daily itinerary that highlights the best the area has to offer and traveling on our own time table gives us the flexibility to stay on location as long as we wish.
Our daily goal is to capture the beautiful golden hours of sunrise and sunset as it washes across the grand landscape. We make every effort to make this trip fun, educational, safe, adventurous, and most of all ... filled with more photography than you can imagine. It isn't uncommon for participants to stay up all night shooting star trails, then spend the entire next day photographing the landscapes at sunrise and sunset. The enthusiasm and camaraderie on the ANPAT is contagious, and is something you truly have to experience to believe. Even though this trip isn't a traditional photography workshop, people who come always are amazed at how much they learned and how many new tips & tricks they take away for their own photography.
We've scheduled up a world-class lineup of photo locations for this trip. Some are the classics, while others are unique and off the beaten path. Even if you've photographed in Northern Arizona before, you'll be happy you came on this journey. We'll be photographing the red rocks of Sedona, beautiful color in Flagstaff, the sweeping panoramas of the Grand Canyon, the giant desert meteor crater, the painted hills of Petrified Forest, Prescott, and much more.

HOW WILL WE BE TRAVELING:
For your comfort, we will be driving in 15-seat passenger vans, occupied by a maximum of 8 Nikonians each. We will all stay the first part of our trip in Sedona, Arizona and the surrounding areas, moving out for the last portion of the trip to Williams, Arizona.
Arizona has an amazing variety of photography opportunities and is one of the USA's great travel destinations.
Our plan is to photograph as many of the following areas and events as possible (locations and activities may vary due to weather and access):
- Grand Canyon
- Horseshoe Bend
- Meteor Crater
- Petrified Forest
- Watson Lake
- Desert Canyon Scenic Area
- Tonto National Bridge
We'll be photographing sunrises and sunsets every day, as well as mid-day photo destinations that will present us with myriad of stunning challenges and opportunities.
Make sure to bring your tripods for phenomenal astro photography under Arizona's starry skies. There will be ample opportunity to shoot star trails during our adventure. The American SW is a region with limited population, so it offers a very dark and pollution-free sky to further challenge us with night astro photography.
Friday October 11th, will culminate with our group dinner and photo presentation, showcasing the best of everyone's photographs during the week.
