The air is crisp, leaves have fallen, ice surrounds open water of the wetlands concentrating ducks, geese and swans, and as many as 500 bald eagles have returned to the Klamath Basin. We photograph bald eagles perched in trees, sitting on the ice, and soaring just above our heads with snow capped peaks for our backdrop. This is Klamath Basin in February.

Join Nikonians Academy at the Winter Wings Festival with professional wildlife photographer Jim Stamates for this action filled 2 day field workshop photographing the many birds of the Klamath Basin including Bald Eagles, Hawks, Owls, and waterfowl. We will focus our attention and our cameras on the hundreds of Bald Eagles that winter at the Klamath Basin NWR along with thousands of Swans, Geese, and Ducks. This is the place to be for wintering waterfowl, bald eagle and birds of prey photography.

Jim will share is low impact field techniques that have helped him capture thousands of amazing photographs that have been published world wide. Jim will use his 35 years of experience and knowledge of wildlife, birds, and the natural environment to help you express your uniqueness through your photography. He will also share a little known secret on how to find and get close to wildlife.

Bonus: Jim will be giving a special presentation of his Theory of Rhythms during orientation the night before the workshop. You won’t want to miss this!

Who should attend: Anyone with a desire to improve their photography of the natural world from beginner to seasoned pro. All camera brands including point and shoot are welcome. Jim will be spending time with each participant individually to help you improve your level of experience.

What to expect: We will be picked up at the Lodge at the Running Y Ranch very early each day and head to our first stop for early light image making. Lessons will be conducted in the field between shoots. We will search the best locations for the best photo opportunities. We break for lunch as a group at one of the local eateries. More lessons and great opportunities await us for the afternoon shoot. We return to the Lodge at the Running Y Ranch thrilled with the day’s experience.

Lodging: We have a special rate at the Lodge at Running Y Ranch. Be sure to mention Winter Wings Rate when booking your reservation.

“The Winter Wings Festival is by far the best birding festival I’ve attended. A well organized event you won’t want to miss. The festival dates for 2014 are Feb 13-16. We start our 2 day field workshop the day prior to the festival to give you the opportunity to stay for the entire weekend and join some of the other events on the schedule including a keynote address by Rick Sammon, a Canon Explorer of Light on Friday evening”...Jim
