Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta - 40th Anniversary - October 3 to 7, 2011

Discuss this workshop

Join us for spectacular Hot Air Balloon photography at one of the USA's most famous events.

Originally conceived as a competition with the balloonists performing challenges and being rated on their success, the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta began in 1972, with 13 intrepid balloonists. Today the emphasis is on fun and good times. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the largest hot air balloon rally in the world with as many as 700 balloons participating in the 10-day festival.

The balloons take off from Balloon Fiesta Park -- a 78-acre launch site where spectators and participants mix and chat. In addition to the wildly popular mass ascensions, the fiesta offers eerily beautiful balloon glow evening events. As the light fades, these colorful and fragile colossi fill, lit from within by the blasts of flame. The balloons are tethered in place, and people walk through the glowing fantasy forest, some pulling out chairs and simply enjoying the spectacle.

This year Nikonians Academy will be in Albuquerque for both the Balloon Fiesta and a combination Nikon camera workshop and field photography activity during the fiesta. This workshop combination will give photographers the chance to learn more about their Nikon camera, photograph in the wonderful light of the southwest and spend a day shooting the colorful balloons. What a great combination!
